A.O.C.A. CONSTITUTION & BY-LAWS
SCHEDULE – “RINK RULES” (revised 2005)
The Atlantic Oilworkers Curling Bonspiel is designed with the intent of making the event a fun and relaxing experience for all that participate. Although the spirit of competition is embraced throughout the schedule of curling events, all participants are requested to not lose sight of the fact that the A.O.C.A. has a long history of providing a friendly and cooperative environment for all levels of curlers to enjoy.
The executive of the A.O.C.A. offer the following rules for all to follow:
1. The rules of good sportsmanship & good fellowship are to prevail at all
times.
2. Skips or skip’s designate will report to the drawboard 10 minutes before
their team’s scheduled game to report team attendance status.
3. Teams must consist of no less than 3 players with no less than 2 of the original team players present. (designated spares are considered to be original team members) Available spares from the registered spare list must be used if a team is short any members. If no registered spares are available, a team is allowed to play with 3 players.
4. If, for whatever reason, a team is unable to appear at the time of the
scheduled game, they will be given 15 minutes grace. A penalty of 2 points
will be assessed against a team for being up to 15 minutes late and the game will start on the second end. If after 15 minutes a team is still not available, the game will be forfeit to the team present & ready to play. Back to back lateness of over 15 minutes for any team will result in the team being asked to step down from bonspiel participation.
5. Teams are allowed to change a player’s position provided that the drawboard is notified prior to the start of the game. Once play has begun, players must retain their position.
6. No team player (active or eliminated) can register on the spare list. However, team players may be eligible to spare in a forfeit situation identified in rule #7.
7. If only 2 team players are present and a registered spare is not available resulting in a forfeit situation, then team players can spare in order of the following priority: (Skips & Mates cannot spare for any reason)
· A registered spare already assigned to a team with 3 members present.
· A registered lead or second from a team that has been eliminated.
· A registered lead or second who is interested in curling.
8. A spare must play lead position. In the event that 2 spares are curling on the same team, the drawboard will declare which individual throws lead & second stones.
9. A spare who has played 3 games on the same team shall become a member of that team and the original team member will become a spare.
10. A spare can play in 1 final game only. Rule #7 will come into effect if a team faces a forfeit situation for a final game.
11. The first 3 games are 6 Ends, all games after the first 3are 8 ends.
12. Having one player from each team draw to the button will break ties. (sweepers will be allowed) Final games ending in a tie after 8 ends of play will require an entire extra end to be played until a winner is determined.
13. 120 minutes will be allotted for each 8 end game and 90 minutes for each 6 end game. The bell will be rung for all games except the finals. Once the bell has been sounded, all teams are to finish the end that they are curling in plus 1 more if not in their last End.
14. The Free Guard Zone is in effect as well as all other C.C.A. rules.
15. The 2-point mate rule no longer applies.
16. The winning mate is responsible for reporting accurate game results to the drawboard.
17. All scoring and measurements are the responsibility of the mates. The drawboard attendant will umpire if mates are unable to agree.
18. The team players on the ice for the finals, whether spares or not, will be the prize winners. The original team member missing will be the trophy winner.
19. Skips are responsible for the conduct of their team members and are asked to remind all of the rink rules, in particular rule #1!
20. No beverages are allowed on the ice surface. Please make good use of the shoe cleaners provided by the club.
